Fall in the South is always so fickle.
For the most part, you can count on the temps being in the 70s but lately (all of October) it’s been in the 80s, and trust me no-one wants to wear a sweater in that with our humidity.
If I haven’t mentioned before I live in South Carolina. I wish I could say that I had a deep heritage here because I have so much respect for the Carolinian way of life. I unequivocally love history and South Carolina is steeped in it. The traditions, food, and unwavering hospitality. Unfortunately, the fickle weather is just something you have to deal with.
Fickle weather needs a versatile outfit. Form meets function here with dresses. In the morning the weather is cool so it’s easy to layer on a sweater but by the afternoon you need to switch to a more ventilated shoe and lose the sweater. I will just toss the extra pieces of clothing in a bag in my car (or just the passenger seat let’s be real.) You can also just as easily dress up a day dress with heels, a brighter lip shade, and toss on a jacket for nighttime.
Fickle weather needs a versatile outfit
From a cool morning to hot afternoon to a warm evening (sometimes cold who knows) dresses make for the most versatile piece in your wardrobe.
Don’t push your summer dresses aside just yet
Don’t push your summer dresses aside in the fall either with a sweater and boots you can change the whole vibe. This pretty blue dress has a very summer feel to it but I just added some taller boots and a sweater and now its a skirt with an added later underneath my sweater. Also life hack here.. to make those sweaters more tailored when adding over a dress add an elastic belt! Just fit the belt to your waist tuck in the bottom of the sweater to and the leftovers lay over top making the belt disappear. Genius! (I bought mine from amazon here) I wish I could take credit for this but I’m pretty sure I saw it somewhere a long time ago and it was so good it stuck.
Side-note; I really love the word “autumnal” can we just make that happen here in the states??
