I love a good sale and finding versatile pieces for our wardrobes! What I consider a versatile piece is something that not only transitions well with seasons but transitions with fashion trends.
Sweaters, like these, can actually take you from late summer, styled with shorts for cooler mornings/evenings straight into fall through to winter and well into spring! In cooler weather, in cooler climates especially, you will want to layer these sweaters with something soft underneath. Oversized slouchy cardigans are still raging in trends paired with skinny jeans or leggings all the way to mom jeans and wide-leg pants. And quarter zips y’all, I can’t get enough of them! They are such a flattering sweater! The collar and the V-neck make this the most flattering type of sweater in my opinion! The collar elongates the neck and the v-neck shows a little skin.
The Spanx leggings are a cult classic for a reason! Y’all I tried not to like these. I thought why should leggings cost this much? (We aren’t discussing my love of Lululemon or Athleta) They are that good though! They suck you in, in all the right places, and make your legs look long and lovely.. and they are leggings.. comfort always plays a role, right?
The two types of jeans you need are a dark pair of skinny jeans and a medium to light pair of mom jeans. If you have these two in your closet or your cart you are set. I chose these because Levi’s has been around forever for a reason. They make great dependable jeans with my Abercombie jeans coming in a close (very close) second. Lastly, these Adidas high-waisted sweatpants are perfect on those days you don’t feel like leggings but still want to be comfy!
These 3 jackets will cover you from casual to dressy and they can all be worn casual or dressy! The moto jacket is great for your everyday casual and can be worn with everything from jeans or leggings to dresses and trousers. I could not resist this faux fur aviator when I saw it! If a coat could look luscious this does! I can’t wait to pair this with quite literally everything aside from a ball gown! HAHA! This long overcoat from Ralph Lauren was one of the first pieces in my cart and that was shipped to me! Honestly, I was so excited when it came in! What I love about this is it is a dressier piece but I can’t wait to dress it down with some jeans and sneakers!
This will be my go-to fall dress for so many occasions dressed up with boots or booties but also styled with white sneakers or flat mules! Although I fell in love with this dress and totally recommend it has sold out (always check for restocks!) I feel there will be several similar dresses to come this fall. I love how this is long sleeve and maxi length but it has the split so you don’t feel like you are drowning in material.
Ok y’all the part I am most excited about, SHOES!!
I am a shoe girl through and through and I am excited about what I found for this year! Boots, booties, slides, and sneakers. Tall boots are multipurpose; they keep your legs warm and they look cute! These two can be worn in so many different ways from jeans to dresses, I can’t wait to style them. Being an Army brat I am partial to a good combat boot but again they need to be lengthening even though they are flat. I don’t find these two characteristics to be an oxymoron rather it just takes a discerning eye to find that right fit for your body type! Your girl loves a good bootie and these with chains…y’all I was already in my head trying to figure out how to recreate them if they sold out before I could get to them. FYI I think if you were to take a chunky choker over a good pair of booties you may get the same look! When I saw the Sorel’s were in the sale I had to add them to my wishlist to show y’all! I bought two Sorels very similar to these two boots over 4 years ago. They still look brand new and are so durable I love them so much so when I saw the updated styles I just to tell y’all about them. These are weatherproof so they are great for all the rain, slush, and snow and the best part is that they are wedges so I call them my elevated rainboots. Pun intended! Everyone needs a good white sneaker, period. They are so versatile and go with so many outfits when you just want the comfort of a sneaker from dresses to trousers. These All Saint slides are so good. They look a bit more elevated than your regular pool slides and are so comfy! Lastly, these Ugg slippers are a must if you are looking for a new cozy slipper this year. Mine I got in last year’s sale is still my go-to when the weather is cool!
Sidenote, I’m not entirely letting go of the pointed shoe trend. As the square toe shoes are trying to take over I find a more pointed toe to be more leg lengthening. As someone who does not have the longest leanest legs, I am always up for anything that lengthens. After all that is what fashion is all about anyway, expressing yourself and choosing how you want to present yourself to the world!
No, I don’t think that anything in this list is groundbreaking. Yes, this list can work for everyone if you’re looking to update your wardrobe OR shop your current wardrobe. I’m hoping to help you look at things in a new light and make some pieces you have more versatile because that its the ultimate in creating a larger more versatile closet!
I had my kids go through and pick out their finds for back to school and I’ll be sharing those soon so be sure to check back!
I’ll also do a follow up blog post when all my pieces come in styling them in real life!
In the meantime, if you saw something that helped fill a gap in your wardrobe everything is always linked in my shop Liketoknow.it/designingDanielle.
